Valve quietly revised the Steam Machine product page, replacing a bold performance claim with a more measured one. The store page originally advertised "4K gaming at 60 FPS with FSR" but now says the device is capable of "Up to 4K gaming with FSR 4.1," according to both GamingOnLinux and IGN.
IGN reported that while 4K at 60fps is achievable with settings tweaks, the original claim was overstated. The outlet noted the revision came after the Steam Machine's price and release date announcement sparked discussion about its actual capabilities.
"Valve has updated the Steam Machine's store page to claim the device is capable of 'up to' 4K gaming with FSR, walking back an earlier claim of '4K gaming at 60 fps with FSR.'"
GamingOnLinux characterized the change as reflecting "a more honest assessment of the device's capabilities." The outlet also reported that the revision is enabled by an AMD update allowing older GPUs to officially use FSR 4, which is now included in Proton Experimental.
"The change reflects a more honest assessment of the device's capabilities, and is enabled by AMD's update allowing older GPUs to officially use FSR 4, now included in Proton Experimental."
With Valve now framing the Steam Machine's 4K potential as an upper limit rather than a guarantee, the revised language aligns more closely with the device's likely performance in demanding titles. The shift also suggests Valve is managing expectations ahead of the machine's launch, after the initial bold numbers stirred skepticism.
