New BBC director-general Matt Brittin has told MPs that the TV licence fee is 'no longer fit for purpose' and that the corporation is 'held back' by it. Speaking before the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, the former Google boss suggested the funding model needs to be re-examined, raising the possibility that the traditional TV licence could be scrapped in favour of a new system.
