Trump Says Iran Ceasefire Is Over After U.S. and Iranian Strikes

President Donald Trump says the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is "over" following a new round of military strikes exchanged overnight.Speaking Wednesday at the NATO summit in Turkey, Trump said Iran has repeatedly violated the agreement, adding that negotiations are no longer productive. He said peace talks could continue but described them as "a waste of time."According to U.S. Central Command, American forces struck more than 80 targets in retaliation for attacks on commercial ships near the Strait of Hormuz. The United States also announced the reimposition of sanctions on Iranian oil sales.Iran responded by claiming it launched missiles and drones targeting dozens of U.S. military sites across Bahrain and Kuwait, describing the attacks as retaliation for the latest American strikes.Former Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said renewed negotiations will be difficult following the latest escalation, despite previous diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions.The exchange of attacks also rattled financial markets. U.S. stocks declined Wednesday morning while oil prices climbed to their highest levels in three weeks as tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz slowed.Trump also threatened additional military measures, including renewing a naval blockade, targeting civilian infrastructure and taking control of Iran's key oil export hub, Kharg Island.
