President Trump said Tuesday he considers the ceasefire with Iran finished, following a new exchange of fire overnight that included strikes on U.S. bases in the Gulf.Speaking from the NATO summit in Turkey, Trump said he'd talk to his negotiators but doesn't see much point in it. "As far as I'm concerned, it's over," Trump said. "I'll speak to our negotiators. They want to negotiate. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a waste of time dealing with them."U.S. Central Command released video overnight of what it called powerful strikes on more than 80 Iranian military targets, saying the hits were in response to Iran attacking three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, something Central Command called a clear violation of the ceasefire. Trump said the exchanges have become a pattern. "I told them every time you hit, we hit," he said, "and of course they're dirty players, so they go after everyone."Iran's Revolutionary Guard responded by launching its own overnight attacks on American bases in the Gulf, setting off missile alerts in Bahrain and Kuwait. It's not yet clear whether those attacks caused any damage, and the Pentagon hasn't commented. Iran's foreign ministry, meanwhile, accused the U.S. of violating the ceasefire as well. The Trump administration is also squeezing Iran financially, pulling back a waiver from the earlier peace deal that had let Iran sell oil on the open market. That move, layered on top of the overnight strikes, sent oil prices climbing. The renewed fighting comes as Trump meets today with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, after separate calls with Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. "I think they both want to make a deal," Trump said of the Russia-Ukraine talks. With Russia stepping up deadly attacks on Ukraine, Zelenskyy is pushing the U.S. for more Patriot missile defense systems. "As quick as possible, as much as possible," Zelenskyy said. Two wars are now competing for attention at what was supposed to be a NATO summit focused on alliance business.
