President Donald Trump has announced the nomination of Lance Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper and U.S. Marine, to serve as the next director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The move fills a leadership gap at the agency amid the administration's ongoing immigration enforcement push, according to CNBC.
Schroyer brings 29 years of law enforcement experience to the role, NBC News reported, and currently serves as a senior adviser to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. His background includes stints as a state trooper and service in the Marine Corps, giving him a blend of civilian and military policing credentials.

That escalation, which began earlier this year, saw a rapid ramp-up of deportations and border security measures. Schroyer will replace Todd Lyons, who held the director position for only a few months before his departure.

Lyons resigned at the end of May, according to CNBC, and David Venturella has been serving as the acting head of ICE since then. Schroyer's nomination now heads to the Senate for confirmation, though no timeline for a vote has been set.
