The latest edition of the Roggin Report tackled two topics sparking conversation across the Coachella Valley: improving cell service in Rancho Mirage and the growing number of young adults moving back home with their parents.Rancho Mirage residents have long complained about wireless dead zones, including areas where making emergency calls can be difficult. The city says it is working on a wireless master plan to identify coverage gaps and improve service, but a proposal to fast-track new cell towers has created controversy.City officials say speeding up the approval process could reduce delays and address a public safety concern. However, some residents are concerned about a lack of transparency and the possibility of large cell towers being built near homes without enough community input. The Rancho Mirage Planning Commission voted to move the proposal forward, with the issue now heading to the city council for a July 16 meeting.Roggin discussed the issue with local performer Katrina Dixon and nonprofit consultant Stephanie Miner. While both agreed better cell service is needed, they said residents should have the opportunity to weigh in before decisions are made. The conversation also turned to a growing trend nationwide: adults moving back into their childhood homes. With rising rent prices, high home costs, and student debt, many younger adults are choosing to live with family longer as a way to save money and build financial stability.Contributors shared their own experiences, noting that while parents often welcome their children home, they also want them to become independent and successful. The Roggin Report also answered viewer questions about public access to the Palm Springs High School track, tire sensor replacement costs, manufactured home repairs, and short-term car rentals.Explore: NBCPalmSprings.com, where we are connecting the Valley.
