The use of Simon & Garfunkel’s music was definitely original. But it doesn’t rescue the movie from the utter lack of chemistry between Dustin Hoffman & Katharine Ross, or the fact that the jokes (to go back to the point of the OP) just don’t land any more. This doesn’t work except as a time capsule
