From the article
Enterprise AI agent adoption is booming on paper — Gartner says 40% of enterprise apps will embed task-specific AI agents by the end of 2026, up from less than 5% in 2025. IDC projects AI-enabled application spending to reach $179 billion in 2027. Salesforce has 8,000+ Agentforce customers. Deloitte found 85% of companies plan to customize agents for their business. But the same analysts are flashing red: Gartner predicts over 40% of agentic AI projects will be canceled by the end of 2027 due to escalating costs, unclear ROI, and inadequate governance. Only 2% of enterprises have agents running at full scale. Only one in five has a mature governance model. Data privacy concerns exploded from 53% to 77% in a single quarter. Integration complexity blocks 46% of deployments. This analysis maps the gap between the enterprise agent gold rush and the operational reality — who's actually shipping, what's failing, where the money is going, and what separates the 2% that scale from the 40% that get canceled.
