TELECOMMUNICATION TECH: Nokia receives €870 million EIB loan to support Europe’s leadership in advanced mobile technologies

Backed by the InvestEU Guarantee, the EIB is lending up to €870 million to the well-known telecommunications company Nokia. As part of the EIB’s TechEU initiative, the financing will support Nokia’s research and development of advanced systems such as 5G-Advanced and 6G. This investment aims to strengthen Europe’s technological leadership in mobile communications while also contributing to EU security and defence objectives, as modern radio networks incorporate enhanced cybersecurity features. The multi-year R&D programme will be implemented across several Member States and seeks to retain highly skilled talent and critical intellectual property within Europe.
