In response to Taiwan authorities' smear on the Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office said that Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, driven by their inherent pursuit of "Taiwan independence" and political interests, are attempting to erase and distort Taiwan compatriots' identification with the Chinese nation. Their repeated baseless attacks and smears against the law are aimed at fabricating excuses for betraying the nation, splitting the country, undermining cross-Straits relations and restricting exchanges across the Taiwan Straits.
