The Routes Journal is an alternative media project focusing on restricted mobility: it documents the criminalization of migration routes and the consequences this has on the lives of the people who travel them. It was born out of a desire by a group of researchers, artists, migrants, and activists to offer a different perspective on the phenomenon of migration. Drawing on the information that people on the move produce about their material and social conditions along the routes, a cooperative newsroom works to transform photographs, audio, and video into stories accessible to a non-specialist audience.
