Variety and nkomode.com reported that New Zealand-based sales agent Black Mandala has acquired five horror features for its international slate, spanning subgenres from slasher-thriller to British creature horror. The lineup includes "The Tree House," "Babybacks," "The Driftless," "Saturnalia," and "The Shug," each drawing on different cultural and stylistic traditions.
"The Tree House," directed by Luis Calderón and starring Goya Award nominee Sandra Escacena, leads the slate as a Spanish slasher-thriller. The other four titles cover a broad range: "Babybacks" is a survival horror set against cartel nightmares, while "The Driftless" taps into Midwestern folklore. "Saturnalia" offers a supernatural giallo, and "The Shug" introduces a British folk monster.
According to the reports, Black Mandala’s latest acquisitions reflect a strategy of curating distinct horror flavors for international buyers. The mix of psychological terror, creature horror, and regional mythology gives the slate a wide appeal across festival and distribution markets.
By assembling titles from different cultural backgrounds and horror traditions, Black Mandala continues to position itself as a go-to source for diverse genre content. The five films are now being shopped to distributors worldwide.
