Seven Bellingham teams among 70 entrants in biennial 750-mile Race to Alaska

The Race to Alaska (R2AK), a 750-mile engineless watercraft race from Port Townsend to Ketchikan, begins June 14. Of the 70 teams competing, seven are from Bellingham. The race, started in 2015 by Northwest Maritime, has shifted to a biennial format after running annually through 2024 (excluding a COVID hiatus). The race is wind- and human-powered, with prizes ranging from $10K to a set of steak knives, and features a 'grim sweeper' for the last-place team.
