The Seattle Mariners have promoted two of their top hitting prospects, Lazaro Montes and Michael Arroyo, from Double-A Arkansas to Triple-A Tacoma, according to Yahoo News New Zealand and the Seattle Times.
Both players are known for their power at the plate. Montes is an outfielder, while Arroyo is an infielder/outfielder. Yahoo News New Zealand reported that Arroyo "will also be heading up to the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers with Lazaro Montes."
The promotions come as the Mariners look to bolster their offensive depth. The Seattle Times noted that these are not the two most anticipated prospects in the system, with pitchers Kade Anderson and Ryan Sloan staying in Double-A for now, though they are performing well and could factor into the Mariners' big-league plans later.
The moves signal the organization's confidence in Montes and Arroyo's development. Both players had strong showings in Double-A, earning the bump to Triple-A where they will face more advanced pitching.
