A theatrical production that fuses Radiohead's 2003 album "Hail to the Thief" with Shakespeare's Hamlet is set to premiere at London's Barbican Theatre, running from Oct. 31, 2026 through Jan. 23, 2027, according to Variety. The show, titled "Hamlet Hail to the Thief," marks the London premiere after sold-out runs at the Royal Shakespeare Company and Aviva Studios in Manchester.
Directed and adapted by Christine Jones and Steven Hoggett, the production features Thom Yorke reworking the album's songs for the stage, Pitchfork reported. Samuel Blenkin, known for "Alien: Earth" and "Mickey 17," reprises the title role of Hamlet, with Ami Tredrea as Ophelia, Paul Hilton as Claudius and the Ghost, and Claudia Harrison in the cast, according to Variety.
"An adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet set to Radiohead's 2003 album 'Hail to the Thief' is heading to London's Barbican Theatre after successful runs in Manchester and at the Royal Shakespeare Company."
This fusion of rock music and classic theater continues a trend of innovative cross-genre productions at the Barbican, which has previously hosted experimental works blending music and drama. The extended run from late October through late January allows ample opportunity for audiences to experience the unique combination of Radiohead's politically charged album with Shakespeare's tragedy of political intrigue and personal betrayal.
Variety noted that the production had already proven its appeal with sold-out performances elsewhere, suggesting strong audience interest in the creative pairing. The involvement of Thom Yorke in reworking the album's songs adds an extra layer of authenticity and artistic depth to the project.
