Disgraced R&B star R. Kelly has formally asked President Donald Trump to commute his 30-year prison sentence for sexual misconduct convictions, according to multiple reports. The Chicago Tribune reported that Kelly, who is serving time for an array of sexual abuse crimes involving minors, submitted the clemency request directly to the White House. ABC News outlets also confirmed that the petition has been filed, marking the singer's latest attempt to overturn the lengthy sentence that could keep him locked up until 2045.

Kelly's legal team is making what Baller Alert described as "his boldest push for freedom yet" after a string of failed appeals. The singer was convicted in 2021 on federal charges including racketeering and sex trafficking, and in 2022 he received an additional 20-year sentence on child pornography charges to run concurrently with parts of the earlier term. His previous efforts to challenge the convictions on appeal have been unsuccessful.

Now, Kelly's attorneys are turning to executive clemency as a last resort. The request comes as Trump has faced pressure from various figures to consider pardons and commutations for high-profile inmates. The Chicago Tribune noted that Kelly's petition asks the president to commute the sentence, not issue a full pardon, which would reduce the time served but not erase the conviction.

Whether Trump will act on the request remains uncertain. The White House has not publicly commented on Kelly's petition, and the president has previously stated that he rarely grants clemency to individuals convicted of sexual crimes. For now, the R&B star remains incarcerated at a federal prison in North Carolina, awaiting a decision that could reshape the final chapter of his legal saga.
