Q&A: A closer look at campus blooms

As flowers bloom across Western Washington University’s campus, many students may notice the pops of color without realizing the intention and care that go into Western’s landscaping. Plant selection, watering schedules and long-term planning all play a role in shaping Western’s greenery. Western’s Garden Supervisor Oskar Kollen discussed how campus flowers are selected, cared for and sourced. The spring season allows students to appreciate not only the blooms but also the time and dedication that go into them.
