Bandai Namco and developer RENGAME are bringing Once Upon a Katamari to Nintendo Switch 2, with a launch date of October 8, 2026. Alongside the new version, the publisher revealed paid DLC titled Rolling LIVE Highlights, which adds new stages and songs for players to roll through. The announcement was made across multiple regions today, confirming the game’s arrival on the upcoming hardware.

Once Upon a Katamari Rolls Onto Switch 2 in October with Enhanced Edition and New DLC

The Switch 2 version will feature a range of technical improvements over the original Switch release. According to nintendolife.com, the game will boast “improved resolution, higher frame rates, and new mouse controls using Joy-Con.” These mouse controls are a notable addition, leveraging the Switch 2’s Joy-Con to let players guide the Katamari with pointer-like precision. The enhanced visuals and smoother performance aim to refresh the game for returning fans.

In addition to the base game upgrade, Bandai Namco unveiled the Rolling LIVE Highlights DLC. As Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe put it, “The good times keep on rolling with a new edition Once Upon A KATAMARI Rolling LIVE Highlights Edition, which introduces the Rolling LIVE Highlights DLC with new stages, songs and more!” The DLC will be available alongside the Switch 2 launch, though pricing has not yet been disclosed by the publisher.

Existing Switch owners will receive a free update that adds the new mouse controls to the current version, as reported by nintendolife.com. However, no upgrade path for the full Switch 2 enhanced edition has been confirmed for those who already own the game on the original hardware. Vooks briefly noted “A free upgrade, nice,” but clarified that the free addition is limited to the control feature, not a full next-gen upgrade. The situation leaves current players waiting to see if a paid or discounted upgrade option will be offered later.
