Nintendo will sell official battery replacement kits for revised Switch Joy-Cons in Europe, according to TwistedVoxel. The company has also published support articles and a step-by-step guide detailing the replacement process for the new hardware revision.
The move is driven by European Union regulations that require consumer electronics with built-in batteries to have user-replaceable components. NintendoSoup reported that the revised Joy-Con model is being released specifically to comply with these rules.
"The new Joy-Cons are being sold in Europe to meet EU regulations."
Nintendo's official support page now includes a 13-step guide for replacing the battery, as noted by nintendolife. The guide walks users through the process of removing the old battery and installing a new one using the company's official kit.
"The procedure requires Nintendo's official Battery Replacement Kit and only works with certain Joy-Con models."
GoNintendo highlighted that the battery replacement kit is available for purchase in European markets, though Nintendo has not yet announced plans for other regions. The revised Joy-Cons feature a design change that allows the battery to be taken out without specialized tools, a shift from earlier models.
