A new 330-mile transmission line called the Champlain Hudson Power Express has begun delivering 1,250 megawatts of hydropower from dams in Quebec, Canada to New York City. The line can power about a million homes, covering roughly a fifth of the city's electricity needs, and represents a major milestone in bringing cleaner energy to a grid that has been mostly powered by fossil fuels.
