Danny McBride has officially signed on to direct the next G.I. Joe movie for Paramount, marking his first time directing a feature film. According to Deadline, the actor and writer was already attached to write the script, and now he will also take the director's chair. The project is based on the classic Hasbro toy franchise that launched in the 1960s and rose to massive popularity with an animated series in the 1980s.

Plot details remain under wraps, but the studio is treating the film as a high priority. Deadline reported that "the studio considers it a high priority with McBride attached." The last installment in the franchise, Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, was released in 2021, as noted by SuperHeroHype. With McBride now at the helm, the franchise appears to be getting a major creative push.

"as a lifelong G.I. Joe fan, that's a development that has me excited"

GeekTyrant expressed enthusiasm for the direction, noting that everything learned so far "points toward a movie that's actually embracing what made G.I. Joe such a great franchise in the first place." The outlet also described McBride's appointment as a sign that the franchise is finally "on the right track."

Adding to the buzz, both theplaylist.net and IGN reported rumors that Bradley Cooper may be in consideration for a role in the film. IGN led its coverage with the famous G.I. Joe line "Knowing is half the battle!" while theplaylist.net framed the development as a "huge win for fans," citing McBride's acclaimed work on HBO series such as Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals, and The Righteous Gemstones.

With McBride's comedic pedigree and a potential star like Cooper attached, the upcoming G.I. Joe movie is shaping up to be a fresh take on the military sci-fi franchise. As production moves forward, fans will be watching closely to see how McBride balances his signature humor with the action and adventure expected from the toy line's big-screen adaptations.
