Netflix has officially greenlit a reality competition series based on the classic board game Monopoly, produced by Studio Lambert, the team behind The Traitors, in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment. The project won a competitive bake-off against roughly 50 production companies, according to Deadline, signaling strong industry interest in bringing the property to life.
The series will feature 12 contestants playing on a life-sized Monopoly Town Square. According to the official logline reported by forums.toynewsi.com: "players enter the game on equal footing, but that balance quickly disappears as they negotiate, strategize and roll their way through the competition. Each decision could determine their fate." Forums.toynewsi.com added that players earn money, buy properties, and negotiate deals while bankrupt players are eliminated until one remains.
Studio Lambert, known for Squid Game: The Challenge and The Traitors, is producing the unscripted show in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment, as confirmed by C21Media. Deadline noted that casting has now begun for the 12 spots, and the series is expected to premiere in fall 2027, according to Variety and LAmag.
The grand prize is $2 million, a sum that Variety reported will go to the sole survivor of the board-game-inspired competition. LAmag described the series as bringing "the iconic board game Monopoly to life," with the life-sized set and high stakes aiming to capture the tension of the original game. The combination of reality competition format and a beloved brand could draw viewers when it launches in two years.
