Netflix has restructured its feature animation leadership, placing Hannah Minghella as the sole head of Netflix Animation Studio. According to Deadline, Minghella will now focus exclusively on animation and live events, overseeing more than 1,000 employees across three studios in Burbank, Vancouver, and Sydney. Kira Goldberg will take over the live-action family films division, a role Minghella previously held alongside her animation duties.
"Minghella, previously overseeing both live-action family films and animation, will now focus exclusively on animation and live events."
This consolidation of leadership comes on the heels of a major success for the studio. Deadline reported that "Kpop Demon Hunters" became Netflix's first movie to rank No. 1, a milestone that likely influenced the decision to double down on animation.
Variety noted that Minghella, who joined Netflix in 2024 as head of feature animation and live-action family films, will now oversee a film slate that includes "Kpop Demon Hunters 2," "Ray Gunn," and "The Mitchells vs the Machines 2." Her expanded role also involves building out franchises across the animation division, signaling Netflix's intent to develop long-term intellectual property rather than one-off hits.

With three animation facilities now under Minghella's command, the restructuring positions Netflix to compete more aggressively with established animation studios. The move suggests the streaming giant is betting heavily on animated features as a cornerstone of its original film strategy, particularly after proving it can launch a franchise with "Kpop Demon Hunters."
