NASA ends CAPSTONE lunar mission after four years of orbit validation for Gateway station

Summary

NASA has ended its role in the CAPSTONE mission after four years of operations around the Moon. The mission, launched in 2022 on a Rocket Lab Electron rocket, successfully validated the near-rectilinear halo orbit (NRHO) intended for the Gateway space station. Despite a rocky start where the probe briefly lost communication, CAPSTONE achieved its primary objectives. Advanced Space's privately owned probe will continue flying, but NASA's involvement is concluded.
