My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way interrupted his band's set at London's Wembley Stadium over the weekend to discuss classic RPGs, confirming he has not yet played Baldur's Gate 3. During a break between songs, Way spotted a fan's sign that read, "Have you ever played Baldur's Gate 3?" and responded, "No, I only ever played Baldur's Gate 1," according to Gamespot. He added that he had played the Icewind Dale expansion, "But I just ran out of time."
PC Gamer reported that Way elaborated further, saying, "The first one was a lot of fun, the closest thing at the time to playing D&D." The band is currently touring in support of their 2006 album The Black Parade, and the exchange has sparked a flurry of online interest from both music fans and gamers.
Developer Larian Studios quickly got involved, posting on X, "What do you mean you haven't played the critically-acclaimed Dungeons and Dragons RPG, Baldur's Gate 3?" according to Gamespot. The studio's playful response suggests they are eager to get Way into the game, much like fans who have been trying to convince him.
Kotaku noted that My Chemical Romance's vampire-themed music aligns well with Baldur's Gate 3's popular vampire companion Astarion, making the crossover especially fitting. "Fans are trying to get singer Gerard Way to play Baldur's Gate 3, given the band's vampire-themed music and the game's popular vampire companion Astarion," the outlet reported.
IGN France described the moment as a "break between songs" and called it a "bizarrely" candid admission from the rock star. PC Gamer summed up the internet's reaction with a simple plea: "Somebody get this man a Steam Deck." For now, Way remains one of the few who hasn't experienced the acclaimed RPG, but Larian's response suggests his time may be running out.
