Wizards of the Coast gave fans a first official look at the upcoming Magic: The Gathering and Star Trek crossover during a Weekly MTG stream, unveiling 26 new spoilers that include four preconstructed Commander decks and a mechanic that lets players steal opposing creatures. The preview, which aired ahead of MagicCon: Amsterdam, offered the deepest dive yet into the set, according to multiple outlets.
Draftsim reported that Star Trek is the last MTG set of the year, and the early look included full spoilers for the Commander decks. Star City Games noted that the reveal showcased iconic captains, set mechanics, and booster fun. MTG Rocks highlighted that the preview went all out, showing off new staples, signature cards, and insane reprints alongside the new mechanics.
"As an aperitif to MagicCon: Amsterdam later this week, today, Wizards went all out on Weekly MTG."
The four Commander decks are designed to recreate iconic Star Trek conflicts, with Polygon reporting that players can “recreate Star Trek's biggest conflicts using a mix of new mechanics and cards with deep roots in Magic history.” Among the revealed cards is the Borg Queen, a centerpiece of one deck that ties into the set’s creature-stealing theme.
Wargamer.com described the teaser as giving a glimpse at the precons while revealing “two really neat new keywords.” One of those keywords, according to MTG Rocks, is a wild new creature-stealing mechanic that allows players to take control of opponents’ creatures, a fitting nod to the Borg’s assimilation abilities.
