Microsoft enables Windows Backup by default in Windows 11 26H2 outside the EU, requiring manual opt-out

Microsoft is enabling Windows Backup for Organizations by default in Windows 11 26H2 for all regions except the EU, where data privacy regulations require opt-in consent. The service, now called "Windows settings backup and restore," backs up device settings and a list of installed Microsoft Store apps to enable restoration on new devices. Businesses outside the EU with sovereignty and privacy concerns must manually opt out if they don't want their settings data shipped off-device.
