Meta to invest $9.1B in first Canadian AI data center, its largest outside the US

Meta announced it will invest over $9.1 billion (US) to build its first AI data center in Canada, located in Sturgeon County, Alberta. The facility will be the company's largest data center outside the United States and will be powered by a natural gas-fired plant developed by a consortium including Pembina Pipeline Ltd. Alberta's Technology Minister Nate Glubish highlighted the province's regulatory framework designed to attract such hyperscale data center investments.
