At MagicCon Amsterdam, the future of Magic: The Gathering came into focus as the preview panel for Reality Fracture brought the Lorwyn Five back together after nearly two decades. According to IGN, the set marks both the end of the current story arc and the beginning of something new, while polygon.com reported that players can expect to see new Echoverse versions of Garruk, Chandra, Liliana, Ajani, and Jace, with Jace positioned as the villain.
"Check out their Echoverse equivalents and the villainous Jace Beleren in these card reveals."
This twist on familiar planeswalkers gives the set a darker edge, as the Echoverse presents alternate, corrupted takes on beloved characters. Star City Games noted that the panel showed off new cards, booster fun treatments, and a closer look at Jace's Echoverse, which MMORPG described as a major piece of the arc's conclusion.
The preview panel, hosted by Mark Rosewater, Roy Graham, Zakeel Gordon, and Jackie Jones, thrilled fans with a torrent of powerful in-universe reprints and reimagined classics. As draftsim.com put it, "They're pulling out all the stops for this one." The site highlighted a ton of revealed cards that blend nostalgia with fresh mechanics, reinforcing the sense that this is a climactic release for the franchise.
Beyond Reality Fracture, the panel teased what comes next. IGN reported that all three Magic Multiverse sets for 2027 were announced, giving players a sneak peek at the story arc that will follow. With Reality Fracture serving as both an ending and a doorway, the Lorwyn Five's reunion is just one piece of a much larger puzzle that Wizards of the Coast is laying out for the years ahead.
