Apple's upcoming M7 Ultra chip, expected to arrive in 2028, will support up to 1.5TB of unified memory, matching the highest RAM option available on the last Intel-based Mac Pro. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported the news in his Power On newsletter, according to 9to5Toys and MacRumors.
"Apple is preparing to include up to 1.5TB of RAM in the upcoming M7 Ultra chip. This’ll mean Apple Silicon will finally match the highest RAM configuration available on the highest end 2019 Intel Mac Pro."
The milestone brings Apple's in-house chips to parity with the 2019 Mac Pro, a machine that held the crown for expandability and raw memory capacity in Apple's lineup before the transition to Apple Silicon.
"Apple's M7 Ultra chip coming in 2028 is designed to support up to 1.5TB of unified memory."
While the M7 Ultra is still two years away, the report underscores Apple's long-term commitment to closing the memory gap between its pro hardware and the legacy Intel-based workstation.
iThinkDifferent added that the M7 Ultra will likely debut in a Mac Studio refresh, confirming that Apple plans to bring this capability to its compact professional desktop rather than requiring a full Mac Pro chassis. The current M4 Ultra, by contrast, tops out at a much lower memory ceiling, so the jump to 1.5TB represents a significant leap for users running large-scale simulations or virtualized workloads.
