Lego is releasing a new 825-piece set inspired by the Netflix animated film "KPop Demon Hunters," featuring characters Derpy and Sussie Bird. The set will be available for pre-sale globally on LEGO.com and launches in stores on Aug. 1, according to Variety.
This marks Lego's entry into the KPop Demon Hunters collectible market, joining Mattel and Hasbro who have yet to release their own products, Bleeding Cool reported.
"Derpy is a supernatural tiger from the underworld based on the babo horangi, a figure from Korean traditional folk painting (minhwa) from the Joseon era."
The character's folk art roots add a layer of cultural depth to the toy, distinguishing it from typical licensed sets. Lego's decision to produce the set ahead of competitors suggests confidence in the franchise's staying power, though neither Mattel nor Hasbro have announced plans for their own KPop Demon Hunters products, as noted by Bleeding Cool.
