Grammy-nominated gospel artist Koryn Hawthorne has signed with Motown Gospel, a division of Capitol CMG/Capitol and UMG, Billboard reported. The move places the singer on a label known for its deep roots in gospel music while she prepares to release new material later this year.
Hawthorne arrives at Motown Gospel with a strong chart track record. She previously scored multiple No. 1 hits on Billboard's Gospel Airplay and Hot Gospel Songs charts.
"the 41-week chart-topper 'Won't He Do It'"
That single, which spent nearly a year atop the gospel charts, helped establish Hawthorne as a major force in the genre. According to Billboard, the label is part of a larger partnership between Capitol CMG and Universal Music Group, giving Hawthorne the backing of a major music operation.
Hawthorne is currently working on a new album, Billboard reported, though details on its title or release date have not yet been announced. The signing marks the next chapter for the singer, who first gained wider attention as a top-four finalist on the television competition "The Voice."
