King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Go Full Electronic on 28th Album Alien Metal

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have announced their 28th album, Alien Metal (also referred to as LP28), set for release later this summer. According to Billboard, the project marks the band's first hard electronic album, a notable departure from their usual psychedelic rock and prog explorations.
"Following last year's orchestral rock album Phantom Island (LP27), the new album shifts to electronic dance music."
Stereogum reported that the lead single, "Level 5," evolved directly from the band's "rave shows" debuted in 2024. The track gives a clear preview of the beat-heavy direction the band is taking on this project.
Described as more beat-focused, Alien Metal is drawing comparisons to King Gizzard's 2023 synth-driven work The Silver Cord, according to Stereogum. The shift to electronic territory represents one of the band's most radical stylistic pivots yet.
"Set to arrive 'later in the summer' (sure, who needs release dates)"
Musicianvoice.com noted the vague release window with a touch of sarcasm, while a separate blog post from carmandragone.car.blog pointed fans toward the official video for "Level 5" as the first proper listen from the album. King Gizzard continues to defy genre labels, and Alien Metal promises to be their most dancefloor-ready outing to date.
