Julia Jacklin has announced her new album The Gem, set for release on September 25 via her new label 4AD. The announcement comes alongside the release of the lead single "Get Away From Me (I Think I'll Love You Soon)," a folk-rock track that explores themes of love's risks and vulnerability, according to Stereogum. The album is Jacklin's first in four years, following 2022's Pre Pleasure, as Rolling Stone reported.
Jacklin described the album as exploring the tension between wanting love and wanting freedom, and compared the creative process to digging in the dark, trusting she would find something meaningful, according to Pitchfork.
The single is a euphoric rocker featuring fuzzy guitar riffs and Eighties jangle rock influences, Rolling Stone reported. Stereogum noted that the track finds Jacklin trying to avoid emotional exposure, while Pitchfork highlighted her description of the album's thematic tension.
The announcement follows a major tour announcement and a new record deal with 4AD, Stereogum reported. The Gem is set to be released on September 25, with the lead single now available on streaming platforms.
