Johnny Marr, the legendary guitarist of The Smiths, has announced his fifth solo album, "The Age Of Everything," and released its lead single "Spin" along with a music video. The album is set for release on October 2 via BMG, according to Pitchfork. Despite not beginning his solo career until after achieving legendary status, Marr has built a substantial body of solo work, now including this upcoming album, Stereogum reported.
"The title of the album is a reflection of a widespread feeling of overwhelm in modern culture, particularly related to technology, but it's not necessarily a negative perspective."
Marr's extensive collaborative work includes partnerships with artists like Damon Albarn, Grian Chatten, and Kae Tempest, as Stereogum noted. The guitarist has also been involved in an ongoing public feud with his former Smiths bandmate Morrissey, though the new album's themes focus more on contemporary cultural pressures than personal conflicts.
The announcement adds to Marr's growing discography as a solo artist, following a career that first made him famous as the guitarist and co-songwriter for The Smiths in the 1980s. "Spin" serves as the first taste of the new record, which continues Marr's exploration of guitar-driven rock and introspective lyrics.
