Intel has launched a €5 billion ($5.7 billion) capital investment at its Leixlip campus in Ireland, scaling up manufacturing capacity to meet surging demand for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing chips. The investment marks the next phase of the site's expansion, upgrading existing fabrication facilities and boosting production output, according to TechPowerUp.

Intel Pours Billions Into Irish Expansion to Meet AI Chip Demand

"Global demand for AI and high-performance computing is driving the need for advanced silicon to power AI Factories, and Intel is scaling capacity in Ireland to deliver Intel Xeon 6 and next gen Intel Xeon built on its Intel 3 node."

The push comes as Intel aims to strengthen Europe's semiconductor supply chain while positioning its Irish hub as a key node for advanced chipmaking. As noted by HotHardware, the expansion includes capacity for Xeon 6 and next-generation Xeon processors on Intel's 3-nanometer node, directly targeting the AI data center market.

Intel currently employs around 4,900 people in Ireland, and the new investment is expected to generate additional full-time roles for highly specialized professionals, according to Ireland-live and Silicon Republic. Ireland-live reported that hundreds of new jobs are anticipated in County Kildare as a result of the expansion, though specific hiring targets have not yet been disclosed.

The investment utilizes existing cleanroom space at the Leixlip campus, according to TechPowerUp, and is part of Intel's broader strategy to scale production across Europe. LSE.co.uk confirmed that Intel has already begun the capital deployment, while y94.com and Global Banking and Finance also reported the $5.7 billion figure, underscoring the scale of the commitment.
