Deborah Ann Woll, the actress voicing Faye (also known as Laufey) in the upcoming God of War spin-off, is brushing off the online hostility that has followed the game's reveal. The title, which puts Kratos' late wife in the lead role instead of the series' iconic protagonist, was a highlight of Sony's State of Play, but a small portion of the internet reacted negatively to the protagonist change, according to Gamespot.
"I know it sounds crazy but I totally was unbothered. I know it feels like it should matter but it just doesn't."
Woll, who told FRVR she has been completely "unbothered" by the negative reaction, said she has seen similar cycles before and focuses on her confidence in the project. "I just know it's great," she told Gamespot. The game sends players to a mysterious new realm dubbed the Everywhen, picking up after Faye's death as she finds herself in the afterlife of gods and magical beings, Push Square reported.
The response from Woll has been consistent across interviews. GameRant described her reaction as a "perfect response to angry fan backlash," noting that she remains focused on the quality of the work rather than the noise. The actress emphasized that she has been through this type of backlash before and has learned not to let it affect her.
"In no universe is it bad [for Faye to be the protagonist]."
Despite the hostility from a vocal minority, Woll's stance appears to reflect the confidence of the team at Sony Santa Monica. The game is seemingly targeting a release next year, though that remains unconfirmed, according to FRVR. For now, Woll is simply looking forward to fans experiencing the story of Faye, a character established as a powerful warrior in previous God of War games.
