In memoriam: Prof. Paul Smeyers (1934-2026)

14 March 2026. With silent grief, we bid farewell to Professor Paul Smeyers, pioneer of the theory of nonradial oscillations of stars. Paul Smeyers graduated in mathematics at KU Leuven, Belgium in 1961 and defended his PhD thesis entitled “Non radial oscillations and stability of massive stars” under the supervision of Professor Paul Ledoux at the Université de Liège (ULg), Belgium in 1966. He returned to KU Leuven in 1967, where he joined the faculty and got promoted to Full Professor in 1973.
