A batch of long-lost David Bowie recordings made in 1965 with producer Shel Talmy will finally see the light of day this September. The compilation, titled "The Shel Talmy Recordings," collects tracks from sessions Bowie cut before he became a global icon, when he still went by his birth name Davie Jones. The set is slated for release on Parlophone Records, as reported by 98 Rock and theloon.com.

Talmy was already a heavyweight in the British rock scene by the time the teenage Bowie sought him out. According to Rolling Stone, "Talmy had made a name for himself a couple of years earlier producing hits for the Kinks ('You Really Got Me,' 'Tired of Waiting for You'), the Who ('I Can't Explain'), and Chad and Jeremy ('A Summer Song')." That experience made him a natural choice for Bowie, who at the time fronted groups called the Lower Third and the Mannish Boys. The sessions also occasionally featured Jimmy Page on guitar and Nicky Hopkins on piano, Rolling Stone added.

One of the tracks on the collection, "I Want Your Love," is a previously unreleased song from those sessions, as reported by uncut.co.uk. The magazine described it as one of several unheard numbers included in the nine-track album, offering a glimpse into Bowie's early songwriting and raw, pre-fame sound. The recordings are surfacing after nearly six decades, according to culturedailynews.com.

SPIN framed the release as a vital piece of music history, noting that it will "document one of the earliest chapters in his remarkable career." For fans and newcomers alike, "The Shel Talmy Recordings" promises a rare look at the moment a young Davie Jones was beginning to find his voice, guided by a producer who helped define the sound of sixties rock.
