Halo Studios has reportedly cancelled Project Ekur, an unannounced multiplayer project that had already moved through internal testing. The news was first reported by Halo YouTuber Rebs Gaming and later confirmed by Windows Central's Jez Corden, who said the report was "100% true" according to IGN.
"Halo Studios reportedly shut down Project Ekur after the multiplayer Halo prototype had already moved through internal testing."
Project Ekur, which originated from an earlier initiative called Tatanka, was being developed by Certain Affinity, a studio that has provided support work on previous Halo and Call of Duty titles. IGN reported that Tatanka was originally envisioned as a battle royale-style game before evolving into Project Ekur.
Rebs Gaming reported the cancellation after speaking with multiple Halo Studios employees, according to vgtimes.com. Gameloop.gg noted that while some details are confirmed, others remain unverified rumour. The project was never officially announced by Microsoft or Halo Studios.
The cancellation marks another setback for the Halo franchise, which has seen several multiplayer experiments in recent years. IGN described the situation as an "unfinished fight," noting that the fate of developers at Certain Affinity or Halo Studios following the project's closure remains unclear.
