Analysts report that Grand Theft Auto 6 has already generated approximately $260 million in pre-orders within its first week, according to KitGuru and GamesMarket. The figure, based on data from market research firm Newzoo, marks what FRVR called the "strongest pre-order campaign on record" for a video game months before its expected November release.

GTA 6 pre-orders top $260 million as analysts forecast record-breaking launch week sales

"strongest pre-order campaign on record"

Newzoo's forecast, detailed by gamespot, predicts that GTA 6 could earn between $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion in global sales during its debut week. Even the low end of that estimate would reach more than three times what GTA 5 achieved in 2013.

"Even the low end of that estimate would surpass GTA 5's $1 billion in 72 hours from 2013."

The prediction draws on Newzoo's proprietary Game Performance Monitor and historical pre-order trends. KitGuru noted that based on those patterns, the $260 million figure is expected to grow exponentially as the launch window approaches.

FRVR reported that analysts anticipate GTA 6 could sell 51 million copies in its first week, which would dwarf the performance of virtually any other entertainment title. The staggering projections come despite ongoing controversy over the game's digital-only availability, as noted by FRVR.

The pre-order data and sales forecasts, while not officially confirmed by Rockstar or its parent company Take-Two, underscore the immense commercial expectations for what is already being called the most anticipated game of the decade.
