Google has rolled out two major updates to its Vids video creation app, letting users generate and edit videos using natural language prompts and even star in them with a personalized AI avatar. The new features aim to make video creation more accessible within Google Workspace, according to multiple reports.
"Google Vids now lets you star in your own AI videos"
TechCrunch reported that the personalized AI avatars allow users to create a digital version of themselves to appear in videos without needing to record on camera. Alongside the avatars, Google introduced Gemini Omni, which integrates the company's multimodal AI to help users generate scripts, storyboards, and edit videos from text prompts and reference images, as noted by blog.google.
"make video creation more accessible and customizable for users"
ShortSingh described the update as a significant step in Google's push to embed generative AI deeper into its productivity suite, emphasizing the goal of democratizing video production. By combining avatars with Gemini Omni, Google aims to lower the barrier for business and educational users who may lack traditional video production skills or equipment.
The move also sets up a comparison with other AI video tools. MindStudio analyzed Seedance 2.5 against Gemini Omni Flash, weighing factors like video length, consistency, and cost, indicating that Google's entry will intensify competition in the rapidly evolving AI video space. MachineBrief questioned whether Gemini Omni will live up to the hype, noting its promise of an effortless user experience.
