Japan Bliss Brain Corporation has released a new 7 Day Countdown Trailer for the upcoming Geppy-X Hi-Res Remastered Edition ; available beginning July 16th, 2026 for Nintendo Switch , PlayStation 4 , PlayStation 5 , Xbox Series X|S and PC . In addition to the new trailer, the original creator, Akira Yamato, had a message to share as the title returns for the first time in 27 years. A Message from Original Creator Akira Yamato "We Never Wanted to Make It Smart." "Let me be completely honest. There was never any limit to our ambition. When I wrote the original proposal and scenario for Geppy-X, I filled it with everything I loved, every idea, every reference, every dream I wanted to see in a robot anime. Then the rest of the development team took that passion even further. What began as one person's vision became something much bigger than any of us had imagined. Looking back, it wasn't a smart way to make a game. Geppy-X is excessive. Over-the-top. It goes too far. But sometimes that's exactly what it takes to create something genuine. Every parody, every homage, every seemingly unnecessary detail was created out of a deep love for the entertainment that shaped our childhood. They weren't included simply as jokes or references; they were our way of preserving the spirit of an era we never wanted to forget. When the game launched in 1999, its commercial performance was heartbreaking. For a long time, I couldn't even bear to look at the development materials. But Geppy-X never disappeared. A small but incredibly passionate community kept discovering it, talking about it, and sharing it with others over the years. Because of those dedicated fans, this game survived long enough to reach a new generation. “Today, I don't believe Geppy-X belongs only to the people who made it. This new version exists because of everyone who believed it deserved another chance. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!" Akira Yamato Original Scenario Writer & Planner About Geppy-X Hi-Res Remastered Edition: In 70's-Style Robot Anime Geppy-X, one of the new features we are most proud to include is the addition of an HD remastered version of the animations, digitized directly from the Betacam tapes delivered by the animation studio. Following the announcement, we received requests from fans who shared that they would love to see the original version of the animations as well. We agree that this is important, especially in the name of preservation, so we have decided to include a feature that allows players to switch between the remastered and original movie versions. This feature will be included in the base game and will not be released as DLC. We invite you to experience the unique atmosphere of the original production, which packed 8,000 hand-drawn animation cels onto four CD-ROMs. Please note that some scenes in the original version were modified by the development team from the Betacam animation, and therefore may differ slightly from the remastered version, which remains faithful to the original Betacam source. We hope you will discover and enjoy the details and creative touches the development team carefully crafted. Four Discs. 8,000 Hand-Drawn Frames. Zero Restraint. Built at the height of the late-90s CD-ROM boom, the original PlayStation release spanned four discs and featured over 8,000 hand-drawn animation frames, an unprecedented production scale for a 2D shooter. This wasn’t just a game inspired by anime! It was a full-blown 70s super robot TV series you could play. For this Hi-Res Remastered Edition: Original Betacam master tapes have been re-digitized Modern upscaling enhances visual clarity Animation has been fully restored to its original 24 frames per second This is not a simple upscale; it’s a full restoration of a lost anime-era production. Play a Super Robot TV Broadcast Geppy-X recreates the structure of a classic anime broadcast: Time signal → Opening → Episode → Eyecatch → Commercial break → Ending → Next episode preview. You don’t just watch a super robot show, you control it. Three young pilots combine their powers to command the transforming super robot Geppy-X, defending Earth from the invading Space Demon Empire. Three Forms. No Mercy. At its core, Geppy-X delivers fast-paced arcade-style side-scrolling shooter action. Switch between three combat types in real time: X1 – Balanced Precision X2 – Speed Unleashed X3 – High-risk Power Strategic form switching is essential to survive intense stages and towering boss encounters. Midway through the story, the machine evolves into Geppy-XX, unlocking new weapons and a new level of firepower. Classic Challenge. Modern Control. The original arcade-style difficulty remains intact, but now supported by modern quality-of-life enhancements: Rewind Function Rapid Fire Option Quick Save CRT Filter Mode Achievement Whether you’re a retro shooter veteran or discovering super robot anime for the first time, Geppy-X adapts to your playstyle. Voices That Defined an Era! Geppy-X features the original 1999 voice performances from some of Japan’s most respected and influential anime actors, including: Akira Kamiya, Shō Hayami, Shūichi Ikeda, Ichirō Nagai, Gorō Naya, and more. This was not a casual casting choice, it was a rare gathering of top-tier talent at the height of the CD-ROM era, captured and preserved in its original form. The soundtrack also includes legendary anime theme artists: Isao Sasaki, Akira Kushida, and Hironobu Kageyama, performers whose powerful songs helped define the spirit of classic super robot anime. These are the original recordings, fully intact and presented alongside the newly remastered visuals.
