Former U.S. Representative George Santos, who was expelled from Congress last year, is trading politics for a reality TV challenge. Newsday reported that Santos will compete on Fox's "Special Forces: World's Toughest Test," a show that puts celebrities through grueling military-style trials.
Santos will appear on the fifth season of the series, according to multiple outlets including the Sentinel and Enterprise, The Press Democrat, and the Lowell Sun. The show, which previously featured stars like Mel B and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, subjects contestants to simulated interrogations, cold-water exercises, and other extreme physical and psychological tests.
Us Weekly reported that Santos has already fired back at critics of his casting. In a social media post, the former congressman addressed negative comments about himself and fellow contestants like Brandi Glanville and Candace Cameron Bure.
"To all the haters talking about me being fat or @BrandiGlanville's skin and wishing ill on @candacecbure amongst the other mean horrible things in the comment section, you could not walk a day in any of our shoes."
Santos, who was expelled after a House ethics committee report found evidence of campaign finance violations and other misconduct, appears to be embracing the notoriety as a ticket to entertainment fame. His participation in a show built around testing contestants' resilience may draw more viewers curious to see how the former lawmaker handles the pressure.
