FX has set a premiere date for 'The Drop: A Snowfall Saga,' a spin-off series that follows key characters from the original 'Snowfall' as they navigate Los Angeles in the aftermath of the crack epidemic. The eight-episode drama will debut on Tuesday, September 8, at 9 p.m. ET on both FX and Hulu, with weekly installments to follow, according to Deadline and Variety.
Set in 1990s Los Angeles, the series centers on Wanda Bell (Gail Bean) and Leon Simmons (Isaiah John), who reprise their roles from the original show. As Deadline reported, the spin-off "explores the aftermath of the crack epidemic as the characters try to reinvent themselves." That focus on personal reinvention against a backdrop of systemic change promises a more intimate, character-driven story than the original series' broader drug-trade saga.
Variety noted that the eight-episode season will also be made available internationally on Disney+, expanding the reach of the John Singleton-created universe. TVLine confirmed that the spin-off is "continuing the story from the original show's universe," though the new setting and timeframe allow for fresh narrative territory.
With 'Snowfall' having concluded its five-season run in 2023, 'The Drop' gives fans a chance to see what became of two of its most resilient survivors. The show's weekly rollout on FX and Hulu will begin September 8.
