Last night, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it would withdraw its previous recommendations restricting the participation of Russian athletes in international sporting events. In practice, the IOC is now giving each international sports federation the freedom to set its own conditions for the participation of Russian athletes, ending the common safeguard that had required strict scrutiny of the neutral status of athletes from Russia. According to Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, this is an irresponsible decision that normalises aggression and helps undermine Russia's international isolation.
