Former college basketball player Kerr Kriisa has been arrested and indicted on charges related to a $2.2 million fraud scheme, according to federal prosecutors. ESPN reported that the Department of Justice announced the indictment on Monday, accusing Kriisa of defrauding two victims over a period of four years.
"The scheme is not related to gambling or harming the integrity of the game."
si.com noted that the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia officially announced the charges, and the case appears to involve financial fraud rather than any connection to sports betting or game manipulation.
Kriisa, who played college basketball for Arizona, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Cincinnati, was arrested by the FBI, as reported by Yahoo News New Zealand. The Independent added that Kriisa is accused of fraudulently obtaining nearly $2.2 million from two victims. According to si.com, he is scheduled to appear in federal court later this week.
