Rolling StoneEngland Player Suffers ‘Serious’ Wrist Injury After Singing ‘Wonderwall’ at World Cuprollingstone.comEngland advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Cup last night (July 5) with a dramatic 3 – 2 win over Mexico at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. It was a massive victory as Mexico’s men’s national team has lost just two out of 89 matches at the Azteca, and England played much of the second half with 10 men following a red card in the 54th minute. As such, the celebrations at the final whistle were immense. As has become tradition, the England players rushed over to their fans, where everyone belted Oasis’ “Wonderwall,” which has become something of an unofficial anthem. But after the singalong, veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson managed to injure his wrist, and had to be stretchered off the field. (Henderson not only hurt himself, but also got a yellow card from the bench, despite not having played a single minute during the game.) Video of the incident shows Henderson trying to climb back over the advertising barriers, tripping, and landing hard on his wrist. A few of Henderson’s teammates confirmed he hurt himself in post-match interviews, but they seemed to suggest it wasn’t that bad. During a press conference later, though, England coach Thomas Tuchel described the injury as “not good” (via The Athletic ). “Jordan just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad,” he said, adding, “I’m sad because Jordan injured his wrist. It’s quite serious. He’s in hospital.” The Henderson injury wasn’t the only consequence of the “Wonderwall” singalong, either. After belting the song, England captain Harry Kane barely managed to get through a post-match interview with his totally shattered voice. This prompted a tweet from none other than devoted England fan, prolific poster, and Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher , who quipped, “It’s hard work singing Harry Kane cmon ENGLAND cmon WONDERWALL.” It’s hard work that singing Harry Kane cmon ENGLAND cmon WONDERWALL — Liam Gallagher (@liamgallagher) July 6, 2026
