Writer E. Jean Carroll has officially collected more than $5.6 million from President Donald Trump, the payout from a federal civil jury verdict that found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation, court records show. The payment of $5,625,005.48, which includes the jury award plus interest, was transferred from an account and confirmed by a notice on the online docket Tuesday, according to multiple outlets including WCBD News 2 and KVIA.
"Donald Trump has done something no other US president can claim. He's paid $5.6 million in a court ordered judgment to a woman who claims he raped her."
The payment marks the end of a long legal battle. The Supreme Court, including Trump-appointed justices, declined to intervene, leaving intact a jury's finding that Trump sexually abused Carroll in 1996 and defamed her in 2022 when he called her claims a "hoax" and a "complete con job" and said Carroll "is not my type," as East Bay Times reported. Showbiz411 noted that Trump still owes Carroll an additional $83.3 million from a separate defamation verdict.
"The Supreme Court left intact a jury's finding that Trump sexually abused Carroll in 1996 and defamed her in 2022."
The Independent reported that a judge ordered Trump to fulfill the jury's verdict, prompting the transfer earlier this week. The disbursement represents the damages award plus interest, a significant step in a case that has spanned years and drawn national attention. Carroll's lawyers confirmed the payment, calling it a vindication for their client after a protracted legal fight.
