Dr. Lisa Nee joins growing field of candidates for Chicago mayor
From the article
Dr. Lisa Nee, a Chicago-based cardiologist who exposed patient mistreatment at the Hines VA Hospital, has joined the field of contenders for Chicago mayor.
"I am running because I believe we deserve a city where public service actually serves the public—where affordability isn't a talking point but a reality, where you don't need connections to get basic things done, and where honesty isn't treated like a liability," Nee said on her campaign website. "I'm not running because it's the next step in my career. I'm running because I've spent my life seeing what happens when systems fail people—and I'm done accepting it."
Nee grew up in the Humboldt Park neighborhood and is a former ICU nurse and breast cancer survivor, her campaign website states.
Nee also holds an MBA, recounted whistleblowing at the Hines VA over unread cardiac tests, faced retaliation while pregnant, and later helped secure bipartisan protections, while also battling breast cancer and returning to health, she told the Sun-Times.
U.S. Representative Mike Quigley, Comptroller Susana Mendoza, and Cook County Board of Review Commissioner George Cardenas are among others running for mayor.
Current mayor Brandon Johnson hasn’t yet officially announced that he'll seek a second term.
